At Bruun & Stengade we believe in doing things the best way we can, using the best quality we can get — and we like others who do the same. We also like a drink or two after a hard days work so, when given the chance to partner with someone who not only has the same exact requirements as us but can also stand a round, we jumped at it.
Braunstein is a small independent distillery based in Køge just outside Copenhagen, run by two brothers — Claus and Michael. They started as a microbrewery in 2005, but soon started producing gin, vodka and whiskey after buying equipment from a distillery in Baltimore. Using chiefly organic and local ingredients, they typify the kind of company we really like and so were the obvious choice when it came to producing a limited edition of Bruun & Stengade gin for our own private night club.
The magic x-factor of our joint venture is the water. Yes — water might sound like the most basic of things, but when you go all the way to the Arctic Circle to get it, you know there has to be a good reason for it and in this case it’s purity. Basically, our gin is distilled using water from the ice that naturally freaks off the icebergs up there in Greenland. And those icebergs average a ripe old age of 180,000 years meaning the water has been preserved as ice and protected from pollutants for all that time. It’s about as pure as it can get and it makes our gin about as smooth as it can get, giving the carefully selected herbs and berries a chance to really shine …
